Some colour impressions of Port-Vendres, on the Catalan coast between Perpignan and the Spanish border, where I spent the 26th and 27th June 2020 / Quelques impressions en couleur de Port-Vendres, sur la côte catalane entre Perpignan et la frontière espagnole, où j’ai passé les 26 et 27 juin 2020

Port-vendres is located on the Côte Vermeille. Legend has it that it was founded by the Phoenicians during the 6th century. Similarly, it is often said that on one of the cliffs, the Greeks erected a temple in Venus, dating from the viie century BC, identical to all those they owned in Greece, on the edge of the waves. Venus, which had just emigrated to the strikes of Gaul, became the Pyrenean Venus, a tribute to the inhabitants who populated the northern slopes of these mountains. This idea is not corroborated by archaeology either, and only toponymy (Portus Veneris, the port of Venus) would tend to accredit it (Wikipedia). / Port-Vendres est situé sur la côte Vermeille. La légende dit qu’il aurait été fondé par les Phéniciens durant le VIe siècle. De même, il est souvent dit que sur l’une des falaises, les Grecs élevèrent un temple à Vénus, datant du viie siècle av. J.-C., identique à tous ceux qu’ils possédaient en Grèce, au bord des flots. Vénus, qui venait d’émigrer aux grèves de la Gaule, devint la Vénus pyrénéenne, hommage rendu aux habitants qui peuplaient le versant nord de ces montagnes. Cette idée n’est pas non plus corroborée par l’archéologie, et seule la toponymie (Portus Veneris, le port de Vénus) tendrait à l’accréditer (source Wikipédia)
